The Empty Table

The Oracle presents a scene of elegant solitude: A long, ornate banquet table in Art Nouveau style — curved legs, floral inlays, the kind of table built for celebration. A dozen chairs line each side, all empty. But at one end, a single place setting remains: a plate, a glass, and one lit candle. From the empty chairs, delicate vine patterns are growing slowly toward that single flame.

The empty chairs are not accusations. They are not proof of your failure to keep people close. Look at them carefully — they are beautiful, well-crafted, lovingly prepared. You set every one of those places with care. You made room for people. You held space. You kept the table ready long after the guests stopped coming. The single candle at your end is not loneliness — it is the fact that you are still here, still lit, still willing to offer warmth to an empty room. And the vines growing from the empty chairs toward your light — those are the connections that are coming. They are slow. They are organic. They cannot be rushed. But they are already reaching for you.

The pattern of people leaving creates a specific kind of wound that is different from never having had them at all. It teaches you a brutal lesson that feels like truth but is actually a lie: that you are the common denominator, and therefore you are the problem. The Oracle does not ask you to stop grieving the empty chairs. Grief is the price of having loved honestly, and you should not apologize for paying it. But it asks you to stop rearranging the table for people who already left. Leave their chairs where they are. Let the vines grow. Treat your own presence at the table as the guest of honor, because you are. The people who belong at your table will not need to be convinced to sit down.
