The Watchtower

The Oracle draws a scene of defiance against chaos: A solitary stone watchtower standing on a cliff edge, battered by a violent storm. Lightning fractures the sky. Rain lashes the ancient walls. Dark clouds press down as if trying to crush the structure into the sea below. But at the very peak of the tower, a golden flame burns — steady, unwavering, completely indifferent to the wind.

The watchtower is not a fortress. It is not designed to fight the storm. It is designed to see through it. That is its only purpose — to stand high enough that the person inside can look beyond the immediate violence of the weather and spot what is coming next. You are the keeper of this tower. The storm raging around you is everything that makes the future feel terrifying: economic collapse, political chaos, wars you did not choose, a climate that is turning hostile. The tower does not deny the storm. It was built because storms are inevitable. And the flame at the top — that is your refusal to stop looking forward. Fear would have you board up the windows and hide in the basement. The Oracle asks you to climb higher instead.

Fear of the future is the most rational emotion available to a thinking person in 2026. Anyone who is not at least a little afraid is not paying attention. But there is a difference between fear that paralyzes and fear that sharpens. The paralysis comes from trying to predict and control what happens next — an impossible task that burns through your energy and leaves you exhausted before anything has actually happened. You are not afraid of the future. You are afraid of your own helplessness within it. And that helplessness is partly an illusion. You cannot control the storm. But you can control whether you are the person who watches from the tower or the person who buries their head in the sand. The watchers are the ones who survive — not because they are braver, but because they see the openings that the hiders miss. Every crisis in history has produced people who found a way through. They were not special. They were simply the ones who kept their eyes open.

The Oracle does not promise the storm will end soon. It promises that the tower will hold. Your foundation — the values you carry, the people you love, the small daily acts of decency you perform — these are the stones in your wall. The storm cannot reach them. Today, instead of doomscrolling through predictions of catastrophe, do one thing that builds your tower higher: learn a skill, strengthen a relationship, make a plan for one specific scenario you fear. Not all of them — just one. The flame does not need the storm to stop. It only needs you to keep climbing the stairs.
